The sixteenth edition of the BIO-Europe Spring Conference (BES) will be held this year in the Swedish capital of Stockholm from 4 to 6 April. This is the top European partnering congress in spring, organized each year by EBD Group. The event attracts more than 2,000 delegates each year from roughly fifty countries and more than 1,300 companies from the biopharmaceutical, biotechnology and financial sectors.

For this edition, so far 52 Spanish companies and organizations have confirmed participation, 20 of which are Catalan. Noteworthy among these are pharmaceutical companies EsteveAlmirallGebro PharmaLacer and Reig Jofré; biotechnology firms like GP PharmInkemiaIntelligent PharmaIproteos and Oryzon Genomics; and investment fund Caixa Capital RiscBiocat will also attend the event with a booth (number #35), which will be available to members of the BioRegion of Catalonia as a point of contact and to distribute promotional materials.

BES is one of the biggest European partnering events in biotechnology and the life sciences and an excellent opportunity for companies and organizations to identify business opportunities, scout for new partners and find funding. The highlight of the event is the one-to-one meetings, but it also features workshops and company presentations.

Some of the highlights of this year’s program include the opening plenary session with Anna Chrisman, managing director of EBD Group; Karin Wanngård, mayor of Stockholm; Anders Lönnberg, Swedish national coordinator for the life sciences; and David Thomas, director of investment and policy research for the Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO).

There will also be panel discussions on different topics including business development and funding, like the one entitled The new normal: Effective alternative financing on alternative funding options moderated by Steve Dickman –CEO of CBT Advisors– and featuring Charlotte Brogren –director general of Vinnova– and Christopher De Souza –director of Broadview Ventures. And others on regenerative medicine and advanced therapies, like the session entitled It's not a mirage: The promise of cell and gene therapy is real that will deal specifically with the real promise of gene therapy.

On 5 April, there will be a workshop entitled How could life science industry capitalize on a life science cluster? with experts from the sector explaining the benefits of creating a cluster in the life sciences and how companies can make the most of it. The final day of the conference will features company presentations, including one from Catalan pharmaceutical company Almirall and the biotech Oryzon Genomics. There will also be networking receptions on the first two nights of the event.
