A total of 36 students participated in “The Health Innovation and Business Creation Summer School” in July, under the European project EIT Health, in which Biocat is an associate partner.
This initiative was a great learning opportunity for participants, giving them the skills and mentality they need to innovate successfully.
It is the second edition of this Summer School, which followed the same structure this year with a first stay at Trinity College Dublin, from 11 to 15 July, followed by a stay at IESE Barcelona from 25 to 29 July. Over these days, students had the chance to learn about many different topics, including: active and healthy ageing; challenges and opportunities in the industry; the art of coming up with ideas and recognizing opportunities; the thought-design process in a multidisciplinary, multicultural team; the importance of interacting with users and having an attractive value proposition; how to be an entrepreneur; and the language of business and developing a business plan, including project management and funding.
Thus, participants worked as a group on four innovative business projects in the health arena, identified beforehand, and created business plans that they pitched to a team of experts, who helped revise them.
After participating in the program, students now know how to transform creative ideas that arise out of their research into products, services and health-promotion policies for social, cultural and financial gain.
