40% of fellows from fourth edition of d·HEALTH Barcelona master from abroad
<p>The 2017 program kicks off on 23 January, intensifying exchange activities with other biodesign students in Europe</p>
On 23 January, a total of 12 fellows have begun the fourth edition of the d·HEALTH Barcelona master in biodesign promoted by Moebio, an initiative of Biocat, and accredited as an UB-Specific master's degree. From January through October 2017, the fellows will be trained to develop innovative healthcare technology based on unmet medical needs identified at benchmark hospitals and will start up their own companies by prototyping a feasible solution and searching for funding.
In this edition, 40% of the fellows are not from Spain and the program will offer more exchange activities than the previous year with other biodesign students in Europe in order to allow participants to validate the needs on an international level and share their experiences with other fellows.
These activities, which will include workshops and visits to other European biodesign programs similar to d·HEALTH Barcelona (like the ones to the University of Galway and Karolinska Institutet), will take place under the umbrella of the EIT Health Innovation Fellowships, a European program to promote exchanges among fellows in the field of healthcare.
The fellows have begun the first of five phases of the master: bootcamp. For five weeks, they will take theory-based classes on topics associated with the healthcare industry and health systems, as well as participating in activities to develop their teamwork and leadership skills.
The “Building the team” week, which will be given by Danish entrepreneurialism school KaosPilot, is sponsored for the second year in a row by Banc Sabadell Foundation and will take place partially in Collbató. This workshop will help bring the multidisciplinary teams of students together before they begin their clinical immersion in late February at three of the top hospitals in Barcelona: Hospital Clínic, Hospital Sant Joan de Déu and Institut Guttmann.
Classes open to the sector
Some of the sessions of the master are open to the sector through the MOEBIO Short Programs, which are training programs of no more than 20 hours geared towards students, professionals and entrepreneurs interested in broadening their practical knowledge in key areas of healthcare, innovation, management and entrepreneurial spirit. Each program has between three and eight sessions. There will also be the option to attend individual sessions.
There is a 50% discount for students on some of the MOEBIO Short Programs, applicable to those in the fourth year of an undergraduate degree or a master in one of the following fields: economy, healthcare and life sciences, engineering or design.
Registration for the 2018 edition of d·HEALTH Barcelona will begin in a few months.
