The second edition of Design Health Barcelona (d·HEALTH Barcelona), the first biodesign program of its kind in Barcelona, will begin in late September. The Agency for Management of University and Research Grants (AGAUR) is offering four grants to cover enrollment fees for fellows in the 2014-2015 edition of the program. The deadline for submitting applications is 15 September 2014.

Design Health Barcelona is a postgraduate program launched by MOEBIO, an initiative of Biocat that combines talent development in the life sciences, business management and technology to boost innovation and entrepreneurship in the healthcare arena.

d·HEALTH Barcelona, inspired by the prestigious biodesign program at Stanford University, trains multidisciplinary teams of fellows that develop their creativity and business skills to produce innovative technology in the health arena. As a result of this training, the first edition of d·HEALTH Barcelona has yielded three innovation projects: a system to reduce excess noise in neonatology units, an online platform to make Barcelona the first cardioprotected city in the world, and a device to combat constipation in patients with spinal cord injuries.

Over eight months, the d·HEALTH Barcelona program combines several different learning methods. First, the fellows have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a clinical setting at hospitals like Sant Joan de Déu, Hospital Clínic and Institut Guttmann. There, working alongside doctors, nurses and patients, they learn to identify real needs and business opportunities. The program also includes conferences given by some of the top institutions in the world, group projects, workshops, etc.

All those interested in the AGAUR grants to participate in the d·HEALTH Barcelona program can find the application guidelines and forms on the AGAUR website.
