Avinent develops dental implant market in England and Taiwan
To face growth over the coming years, the company has expanded their Santpedor facility, adding some 1,000 square meters.
Avinent, a company belonging to the Viladell Purtí Group and specializing in dental implant products and services, is starting up a new strategy to enter the English and Taiwanese markets. They have recently closed distribution deals with companies from the medical sectors in these two countries. They believe that Taiwan will be the gateway to the Asian market and “aim to continue growing in this area,” according to sources inside the company. Avinent’s turnover in 2009 totaled 4.2 million euros and is expected to reach 6 million euros by the end of this year.
However, beyond selling their product in these new markets, the company is also interested in developing a more integral project based on shared knowledge and training in order to develop the medical and dental sector in these regions. In this line, they have already carried out professional training activities, including practical courses on how to use implants, and have started to promote exchanges between Catalan, English and Asian doctors.
Innovating since 2005
Avinent broke into the dental implant market in 2005 with an implant system that incorporates a surface featuring biomimetic properties. This product was the result of their knowledge in the fields of dentistry, biotechnology and materials engineering in addition to work carried out by researchers at a number of Catalan universities including the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), the University of Barcelona (UB) and the International University of Catalonia (UIC). The company currently has a catalog of more than 1,500 dental implants and prosthetic solutions and more than 2,000 clients in a market that is increasingly international.
In order to cope with growth expected over the coming years, Avinent has expanded their facilities in Santpedor (Barcelona), adding 1,000 square meters that will be used mainly to house a new system that personalizes dental structures using the CAD-CAM system, HSM milling and a chrome/cobalt material. 60 employees work at their Santpedor headquarters, mainly from scientific and medical fields.
