Barcelona Supercomputing Center Severo Ochoa program opens second call for applications for mobility grants
Scientists from the supercomputing arena around the world can submit applications through 7 October. Each grant can be for a maximum of €3,000 per person.

The Barcelona Supercomputing Center–Centre Nacional de Supercomputació (BSC-CNS) Severo Ochoa program has opened its annual call for applications for mobility grants to facilitate interaction among researchers and promote international collaborations. The Severo Ochoa grants are geared towards scientists working in fields aligned with the goals of the Severo Ochoa program, and can be either incoming or outgoing: the former are for international scientists working on collaborations associated with this program, and the latter for researchers at the BSC-CNS that want to visit or do an exchange with other centers.
The grant is applicable from September to December 2013, and the financial support can be up to a maximum of €3,000 per person (including travel expenses).
The evaluation criteria for applications are as follows: 40% for alignment with the objectives of the Severo Ochoa program, 30% for the applicant’s academic credentials and research excellence, and the final 30% for the potential impact the collaboration may have on the BSC-CNS.
BSC-CNS is one of the six Catalan research centers with the "Severo Ochoa Center of Excellence" seal granted by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness to centers around the country that are international benchmarks.
In ten years, exascale computing will transform research and industry
Together with Biocat and other institutions, the Barcelona Supercomputing Center has helped create the BiB platform to promote bioinformatics. Additionally, from 18 to 20 September, this center co-organized the scientific debates Towards in silico humans. A challenge for Exascale computing area in Barcelona with B·Debate and IRB Barcelona, where experts in high-performance computing and biomedicine from the United States, Canada, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Germany and Spain debated how exascale computing will transform research and industry as of 2020.
