Bayer has been supporting entrepreneurship and innovation in digital health in Berlin for three years through their Grant4Apps initiative. This year, the group is bringing it to Barcelona with a co-working space in their offices in Sant Joan Despí.
Grants4Apps is an acceleration project for companies developing innovative healthcare solutions or integrated technology in eHealth or mHealth; mobile apps, medical devices, diagnostic kits or digital therapies to help better control treatment or for preventative health and pharmaceutical processes.
Grants4Apps is looking for projects in cardiovascular, oncology, ophthalmology, women and men’s health, neurology, radiology, healthy living and animal health.
Only five start-ups will be selected, from among the projects submitted (the deadline was 13 September), to use the co-working spaces in the group’s offices for six months at no charge. Each team will have an office and meeting rooms.
The aim is for this opportunity, expected to run from the first half of October through March, to give these projects the chance to be mentored and coached by experts at Bayer and other specialists, to contact potential investors and to boost internal communication and with professionals at this subsidiary of the German pharmaceutical company.
In a statement, Bayer Head of Communication Carlota Gómez explained that they have chosen Barcelona because: “Spain has many start-ups with great potential for innovation and very interesting projects. For us, the Grants4Apps Coworking Barcelona is a totally new approach and a unique opportunity to further foster our company’s culture of innovation.”
