From 11 to 21 June BCN Design Week is back, the benchmark design and innovation event in Barcelona that after seven editions is now one of the most important Design Weeks in the world. With the Barcelona Design Center (BCD) seal and the slogan Design Vision 2050, this event offers a program of 70 activities to address the changes society must face in the coming decades through design in areas like housing, consumption, health and eco-design.
The activities will mainly take place at the DesignHub Barcelona (DHUB) facilities in the 22@ district.
‘Leading businesses towards 2050’ Congress
By 2050 an estimated 74% of the global population will live in urban areas and one third of the planet’s population will be over 60. And not just that. The crisis of the economic model, scarcity of natural resources and sustainable development lead us to believe that our lifestyle will change radically over the coming 40 years, a context in which design will be a decisive factor for adapting to new situations.
How can society tackle these changes? Which business models will dominate in the economy of the future? Does our model have a planned obsolescence expiration date? What do we need to change now to reach 2050 using design as a driving force for change? How will this affect our companies?
The highlight of BCN Design Week is the congress Leading businesses towards 2050, on 12 June, which will discuss various views of design in key areas like health and define the role it must play to make a positive contribution to the society of the future.
The congress will feature world-renowned experts: Laura Lee, architect and professor at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh (USA); Oscar Peña, Global Creative Director at Philips Lighting Design; Lorna Ross, director of the design group at the Mayo Clinic Center for Innovation (USA); Jan Willem Sieburgh, entrepreneur, independent consultant and coach; and Nandu Jubany, chef and owner of Can Jubany in Osona county.
Other sessions of interest associated with the life sciences during BCN Design Week:
- 12 June from 10 am to 8:30 pm: Exhibition (Very) interior design organized by Vinçon.
- 19 June from 3 to 7 pm: BDW Lab with Smart Design Breaking Barriers given by Smart Design (Ivan Exposito and Marc Morros). How to design and implement services that help patients acquire healthier habits.
