BY BIOCAT

Each year, Biocat organizes sectorial meetings focusing on an emerging topic of interest in science or technology, where professionals can discover new approaches and discuss their experiences and points of view. The first workshop for this year, which will be held on 8 June in Barcelona, is entitled Biotreatments: research and innovation for sustainable development. Biocat is organizing this event with collaboration from the CTM Centre Tecnològic Manresa.

Are we innovating in environmental biotechnology in Catalonia? What are we doing in terms of the main applications of biotreatments like waste, water, soil and air? How much progress have we made over the past years? Do we know what challenges and needs the future holds for sustainable development?

This event will bring together researchers, businesspeople and professionals from biotechnology companies that work on these environmental applications in order to share expertise, foster collaborations, and identify possible areas of application for companies, research and technology centers, technology transfer departments at Catalan universities, and all professionals from other sectors that are interested in this topic.

Dr. Montserrat Vendrell, CEO of Biocat, will open the session. Speakers will include Dr. Irene Jubany, head of the Department of Soil and Underground Water in the Environmental Technology Area of the CTM Centre Tecnològic Manresa; Dr. Anicet Blanch, Microbiology chair at the University of Barcelona (UB); Dr. Javier Lafuente Sancho, head of the Department of Chemical Engineering at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) School of Engineering; Ms. Georgina Vidal, director of Enginy Biorem; Dr. Jochen Scheerer, director of ASEPMA-ABM Group; and Dr. Mercè Balcells, director of the University of Lleida Center for Biotechnological and Agrifood Developments (UdL). The roundtable, to close the event, will be moderated by Dr. Joan de Pablo Ribas, Chemical Engineering chair at the UPC and CTM Centre Tecnològic Manresa.
