The first edition of PharmaProcess (Innovation Forum in Pharmaceutical Process), on 29 and 30 October at Fira Barcelona, will bring together leaders and experts form the global pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors with the aim of sharing knowledge and experience to innovate (organization and technology) in industrial drug production.

The Spanish pharmaceutical sector is concentrated mainly in Catalonia (46%), which is home to the headquarters of the leading companies. The PharmaProcess scientific committee is made up of companies like Almirall, Esteve, Grifols, Reig Jofré and Telstar and organizations like the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA), Farmaindustria, Biocat, International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE), and Spanish Generic Medicines Association (AESEG), among others.

The congress is broken down into three tracks: Development, Biopharmatech and Operations.

Biopharmatech track

Biotechnology is now contributing innovative solutions to develop more effective and specific drugs. Biocat is coordinating a track to debate the impact of biotechnology on the pharma industry, the latest breakthroughs in cell-culture technology to meet demand for biopharmaceutical products on a large scale, managing productive capabilities (combining internal capabilities with CMO services) and implanting single-use manufacturing models, nanotechnology for redesigning processes, the main regulatory problems of advanced therapies and biosimilars.
