Discovering the opportunities that may be available in the life sciences ecosystem of Adelaide (Australia) for companies from the BioRegion: this was the aim of the reverse mission organized in December by Biocat in conjunction with bioXclusters plusHealth Industries South Australia and the Government of South Australia.

Three Catalan companies potentially interested in the Australian market participated in the event: FerrerÀvida Biotech and Happy Injections, a start-up from the d·HEALTH Barcelona program promoted by Biocat.

In an event held at the Barcelona Science Park, the Australian ecosystem presented some of its strengths, like R&D incentives, access to capital, clinical trials and medtech manufacturing potential, to companies from the BioRegion. Representatives of Adelaide BioMed City, the life sciences government agency in Adelaide, highlighted that the region’s economy has a AAA credit rating and free-trade agreements with Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Korea, Thailand, Indonesia and China.

Landing help for SMEs

This reverse mission is part of the bioXclusters plus internationalization project, which came out of the bioXclusters alliance, promoted by Biocat (Catalonia), BioM (Bavaria), bioPmed (Piedmont) and Lyonbiopole (Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes).

bioXclusters plus works to forge bilateral agreements with “gateway” organizations to provide help for innovative life sciences SMEs in the following strategic markets: the United States, Canada, South Korea, Australia, Brazil, Japan and China. The gateway organizations promote their healthcare and life sciences ecosystems and share their internationalization interests with Biocat and the other members of the project.

Boosting international positioning, strengthening ties with already explored markets, opening up new markets, providing customized tools to promote internationalization of companies and identifying areas for technological exchange and collaboration with other bioregions are the main targets of bioXclusters plus.
