The EuroTransBio (ETB) program has opened a call for proposals for funding for cooperation projects carried out by two or more companies in the 12 European regions, mainly SMEs, through local funds. In Catalonia, it is managed by ACC1Ó.

From 2004 to 2012, the ETB has funded 125 R&D&i projects with a total of €215 millions. The fields that have most benefited from this funding are health/red biotechnology (83%), agrifood/green biotechnology (10%), the environment/gray biotechnology (6%) and marine and industrial biotechnology (1%). The deadline for the 2013 call for proposals is 31 January.

One of the hurdles to accessing ETB funding is the need for partners from other European regions to create competitive consortia. Thus, the Council of European Bioregions (CEBR), headed up by Biocat CEO Montserrat Vendrell, is organizing a virtual partnering event on 22 and 23 November 2012.

To participate (free of charge for Catalan biotechnology, biomedicine and medical technology companies) those interested must publish a profile and project proposal on this platform http://www.cebr.net/profile-project-submission.

The profiles of companies interested in forming consortia will be published as of 26 October, when participants can start requesting meetings for 22 and 23 November. The CEBR will set an agenda for each participating company for the online partnering, which will link up the possible partners for the future consortium via Skype or over the phone.

Moreover, companies interested can also participate in webinars organized by the ETB, which will explain how the program works and the selection criteria in order to increase their chances of getting funding. The specific dates and topics will be published shortly.
