d·HEALTH Barcelona invites you to two workshops to experience the healthcare innovation cycle

This June, Biocat will be starting the admissions process for Design Health Barcelona (d·HEALTH Barcelona), its postgraduate program to train innovators and entrepreneurs in the healthcare sector. Using the biodesign methodology created at Stanford, d·HEALTH Barcelona fellows experience a whole innovation cycle, from identifying the business idea to designing and prototyping a viable solution and scouting for funding.

Now, to raise awareness of the biodesign methodology and the Design Health Barcelona (d·HEALTH Barcelona) program, Biocat is holding two free workshops to give participants a taste of this methodology and the chance to experience a full innovation cycle in just an afternoon. These workshops will have groups of 3 to 6 participants identify an unmet clinical need, come up with a solution, from concept to prototype, and develop the sales model to take this product to market.

The first of these workshops will take place on Thursday May 31 from 5 to 7 pm at Bizbarcelona, the networking event for entrepreneurs, SMEs and investors held annually in Barcelona. As part of this fair, Biocat is offering the workshop Experience the healthcare innovation cycle, which is free of charge but requires registration beforehand.

The second workshop will take place on Friday June 8 from 4 to 7 pm at Barcelona Tech City as part of Barcelona Design Week (BDW), a not-to-be-missed event on design, creativity and innovation in Barcelona. Biocat will be participating in this event for the first time this year, which is one of the most important Design Weeks on the international calendar, with the activity Biodesign Workshop, which is free of charge but requires registration beforehand.

90% of former fellows are working in the sector

Design Health Barcelona (d·HEALTH Barcelona) trains economists, engineers, designers and scientists to be the innovators of the future in the healthcare sector. 90% of fellows that graduate find work in innovation positions in hospitals, pharmaceutical and medical technology companies, research centers or consultancies and other professional services firms. And 48% are currently working on their own project, many of which are based on ideas identified during the clinical immersion in the program.

Design Health Barcelona (d·HEALTH Barcelona) fellows experience a full innovation cycle in their 9 months of training. In multidisciplinary teams, they do a two-month immersion at one of Barcelona’s top hospitals (Hospital Clínic, Sant Joan de Déu, Vall d'Hebron or Institut Guttmann) to detect needs that could be addressed with a new product or service. During the program, the fellows work on the design, prototype of the solution developed and search for funding. At the same time, they take on knowledge in medicine, business development and skills in areas like design thinking and creative leadership, with more than 70 international experts from Boston and Stanford, among other places.

The admissions process for the sixth edition of Design Health Barcelona (d·HEALTH Barcelona) will begin this June and the course will start in January 2019.
