Today, the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) launched its call for proposals for new knowledge and innovation communities (KIC), in which Catalonia aims to participate actively. From now through September proposals will be accepted for KICs in the following areas:

  • Healthy living and active ageing
  • Raw materials – sustainable exploration, extraction, processing, recycling and substitution

Health University Barcelona Campus (HUBc) and Biocat are coordinating and dynamizing the organizations that will participate in the Catalan Co-Location Center (node) of the European InnoLIFE consortium for the KIC call in healthy living and active ageing. Being part of a KIC will have a systemic impact for Catalonia, by promoting entrepreneurship, new technology and new businesses that will work transdisciplinarily in arenas like medicine, biology and ICT, among others.

Through September, the Catalan node will carry out activities geared towards gathering the interests of the sector and preparing a winning bid, along with the other nodes of the InnoLIFE consortium.

The EIT’s KIC aim to dynamize higher education, research and innovation in its theme areas. For the KIC on healthy living and active ageing, the EIT is looking for proposals that offer the best solutions to tackle challenges like the ageing European population and the sustainability of the healthcare systems, while coordinating the efforts and capacities of the public and private stakeholders involved in order to make Europe more competitive.

The EIT is holding an Information day in Budapest (Hungary) on 14 March, where guidelines as to what KIC bids should look like will be discussed. The aim is to guide and provide the necessary information for participants to be able to submit successful, quality proposals.
