The fifth Healthcare Investment Forum, which will be held on 3 November at the Barcelona Medical Association (COMB), will give eleven companies the chance to find the funding they need to move forward with their projects, ranging from €200,000 to €3 millions.
The healthcare sector is playing a key role in transforming the city’s productive model towards sectors with high value added. This is why the Barcelona City Council —through Barcelona Activa—, COMB and, for the past two editions Biocat as well, are driving this specialized Investment Forum in conjunction with the Keiretsu Forum investment network to increase the companies’ chances of finding capital.
A selection committee —made up of representatives from Catalan hospitals, private capital funds and the promoting bodies— has chosen the projects with the best growth potential from a total of 31 applications received from around Spain. The selected companies are:
- Bioglane
- ImmunNovative Developments
- Leadartis
- Life Science Entrepreneur
- Microlitix
- qGenomics
- Quantum Medical
- Regenear
- Salupharma Biosimilars
- SOM Innovation Biotech
- Wirs
These companies will have ten minutes each to present their business projects to more than one hundred investors, including representatives from venture capital funds, private investors, entrepreneurial doctors, researchers from research parks, healthcare managers and pharma executives. After the presentation, a networking event will be held to facilitate contacts and generate business opportunities among the participating companies and investors in attendance.
Of the 11 selected companies, four have participated in the BioEmprenedorXXI program to support the start-up of innovative companies and two are located in the Barcelona Activa incubators.
Healthcare, an attractive sector for investors
Over the past years, the healthcare sector has become an area that generates many opportunities for business angels, as the volume of investment has increased considerably, overtaking other sectors like software, energy, telecommunications and the media. In fact, ten of the companies that have participated in previous editions of the Investment Forum have raised funding for a total of €5 millions.
