After the success of the first edition of the Summer School on Medicines (SSM1), the Barcelona Science Park (PCB) and the Toulouse Cancer Campus will hold the second edition of this program from 31 August through 10 September 2010 in Toulouse and Barcelona. With the slogan The whole process from ideas to drugs, SSM2 aims to show participants different parts of the process of making an idea into a project and, finally, a drug.

The second Summer School on Medicines (SSM2) is aimed at:

  • Doctoral students
  • Postdoctoral researchers
  • Researchers from biotech and pharma companies and research centers
  • Regulatory agencies
  • Scientific journalists

The summer school, which lasts a total of 60 hours, is organized in four sessions that will deal with issues related to:

  • Basic science
  • Drug development
  • Technology transfer
  • Clinical development

It also includes a scientific agenda of conferences and visits to pharmaceutical companies and science parks in Barcelona and Toulouse, two pioneering cities in pharmaceutical R&D in Southern Europe. Participants in the conferences include companies like Sanofi-Aventis, Almirall and Merck Sharp & Dohme, and researchers from Hospital Clínic, Hospital del Mar, Hospital Santa Fe, the Claudius Regaud Institute, and the Gustave Roussy Institute, among others.

SSM2 is organized under the framework of the European Interbio project (Interreg-Sudoe), which offers six 750-euro grants to attend the summer sessions. Part of the grant will be paid directly to the organizers (200 euros for registration and 330 for housing) and the rest will go to reimburse the participant (220 euros for travel expenses).
