First European Biomedical Investor Day to bring 2013-2014 Design Health Barcelona program to a close
The event is being organized by six institutions with biodesign programs
The first edition of the Design Health Barcelona program (d·HEALTH Barcelona) will officially conclude on 9 September at the first European Biomedical Investor Day, which will take place at the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB).
The event, which focuses on new medical technology, is being held by Biocat, in conjunction with five of the most important international institutions with Biodesign programs, and with support from Stanford Biodesign and the Biomedical Engineering – Innovation, Design and Entrepreneurship Alliance (BME-IDEA).
During Investor Day, the three d·HEALTH Barcelona teams and a selection of teams representing equivalent programs at BioInnovate Ireland (Ireland), the Center for Technology in Medicine and Health (Sweden), Inno X Healthcare (Denmark), I-SIP, IHU-Strasbourg (France), Biodesign Israel (Israel) and Stanford Biodesign (California, USA), will present innovative solutions to a group of international investor, businesspeople, business administrators, politicians and healthcare professionals.
Over nine months, the d·HEALTH Barcelona program trained 12 fellows to identify real clinical needs and create new business opportunities for healthcare innovation. This can be seen in the nearly 1,400 new ideas for hospitals, research centers and R&D companies in Catalonia the participants generated during their immersion at three of the top hospitals in Barcelona (Hospital Clínic, Hospital Sant Joan de Déu and Institut Guttman). Each d·HEALTH Barcelona team selected one of the business opportunities detected and worked on that project over the past months. They have designed and improved value propositions, refined business models and developed early-stage prototypes.
At the European Biomedical Investor Day on 9 September, the teams will begin to tackle the task of attracting investors in order to bring their innovation to patients. The event will be the coming-out party for the projects developed by these three teams, as it is their first contact with investors and the beginning of their careers as medical-technology entrepreneurs.
