The Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB) will open its doors on Saturday 5 October to all those interested in getting a first-hand look at how scientists work and at one of the leading facilities in life sciences research. The PRBB scientific festival has had great turnout in the past five editions, demonstrated by the fact that tickets sold out in just a few days last year.
The PRBB open house is free of charge and geared towards families. As a summary of the program, there will be:
- Guided visits around the building and to the laboratories (from 10 am to 6 pm)
- Experiments and activities about DNA (from 10 am to 6 pm)
- Scientific conversations on genetics and last names, air pollution, bioinformatics, immunology, Alzheimer, and more.
- Scientific coffee break
- Cognitive-stimulation games
The PRBB is home to 1,400 professionals from 55 countries and seven independent research bodies, with total R&D expenditure of €80 millions per year. The PRBB building, located next to Hospital del Mar, is one of the most unique in Barcelona and has 55,000 square meters (40,000 for scientific use). The PRBB currently has no vacant space to rent.
