INNOVA31, the venture capital fund promoted by the Polytechnic University of Catalonia · BarcelonaTech (UPC), has decided to sell off the 14% share it held in Catalan company Visiometrics. This share was purchased by American company Visual Performance Diagnostics.

INNOVA31 joined the Visiometrics equity holders in 2003 with an investment of €350,000. This money helped the company get the resources it needed to improve its technical team and tackle international expansion. Visiometrics is working to develop ophthalmological diagnostic equipment that allows for assessment of the optical quality of human vision. The Catalan company is currently marketing the third version of its equipment to measure intraocular diffuse light, dry-eye syndrome and age-related macular degeneration (AMD), among others.

Created in 2011, INNOVA31 was the first venture capital fund created by a university in Spain with the aim of promoting early-stage technology-based business projects. It helps start-ups that want to develop and apply new technology and applications through injections of funds.
