After the success of the AquaConSoil congress, the Institute for Research and Technology in Food and Agriculture (IRTA) is now presenting a workshop on biosensors in the environment, to be held on 17 September 2013 at the Torre Marimon building in Caldes de Montbui (Barcelona), with fifteen experts from Catalonia, Germany, the United States, India and Greece, who will present the latest trends in this field and their techniques applied to the environment.
The focus of this event is of interest as it is highly topical and has great potential. In recent years, biosensor technology has evolved exponentially in parallel to advances in molecular biology, nanomaterials and miniaturization of photonics and electronics. Applications range from medicine to food and water supply, but the workshop will focus on those geared towards improving quality of the natural environment.
The keynote conference Biosensors for environmental biotechnology and monitoring: a new opportunity for improving human health and wealth will be given by Francesc Prenafeta, head of the IRTA Organic Waste Integral Management Program. Prenafeta, who is also coordinating the scientific program for the event, explains that "it is a frontier area of research that will have a significant impact on the development of practical applications in coming years."
The workshop is geared towards a varied audience: it will mainly try to respond to questions posed by scientists and engineers working with biosensor technology, biotechnology or environmental sciences, but students and other professionals interested in this field are also welcome.
Registration fees are €60 for professionals and €30 for students.
