The Azbil Corporation has reached an agreement to acquire 80% of Catalan company Telstar, previously owned by the Capella family. The remaining 20% will remain in the hands of Ton Capella, who will continue on as CEO and member of the board of directors.
Telstar will become a subsidiary of the Azbil Corporation, maintaining their headquarters in Terrassa (Barcelona) and staff of 971 workers, and their mission will be to lead a new Life Science Engineering line of business, under Ton Capella. The new business division will focus on obtaining safer and more productive solutions for clients, and to do this they will combine Telstar’s know-how in design, engineering and manufacturing processes with that of the Japanese group in automation technology. They hope to reach sales of €200 millions over the next five years, taking into account that the biopharmaceutical, life sciences research, personalized medicine, regenerative medicine, and functional foods sectors, among others, will be key.
With this operation, Azbil will strengthen their international sales through the Telstar sales network in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and hospital sectors in Europe, Latin America and North America. The Azbil Corporation was founded in 1906, is traded on the Tokyo stock market, and has a team of 5,185 professionals and turnover of $2,725 millions.
Cuatrecasas, Cortés y Pérez and Asociados Aldgate Capital Partners have advised Telstar on this operation.
