"It's urgent for the EU catalyse and empower innovation hubs that foster world-class innovation" (interview published in the EIT website)

José Manuel Leceta, engineer and former international director of the CDTI, has been appointed director of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (IET) for the next four years. Leceta has worked in the promotion of Spanish participation in European R&D programmes.

As the EIT Director, he will lead the Headquarters in Budapest and will work closely with the Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs) towards delivering impact in the European innovation landscape and results in the field of business education and the creation of new business. He is a strong believer in the capacity of the pan-European partnerships to boost Europe’s innovation potential.

After a rigorous selection process driven by the European Commission, the EIT Governing Board interviewed the candidates suggested by the College of Commissioners and took the final decision.

According to Dr. Martin Schuurmans, Chairman of the EIT Governing Board, "Leceta comes at a crucial moment. The Board and I are confident that Mr. Leceta will comply with the common goal of the IET and its KICs to bring more innovations and more innovative people for Europe."
