Josep Baselga, President-Elect of American Association for Cancer Research
The Catalan oncologist will preside over what is considered the most important cancer research organization in the world.
Oncologist Josep Baselga will take over as President of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), recognized worldwide as the most important cancer research organization. From April 2015, Baselga’s role as president will be twofold: representing the scientific community in Washington and defining the association’s research priorities.
Over the coming three years, Baselga will combine his work as president with his current position as director of the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. The AACR is considered the most important cancer association in the world for its work of excellence in various fields: research, prevention, early diagnosis and treatment.
Josep Baselga (Barcelona, 1959), PhD from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), headed up the medical oncology department at the Vall d’Hebron University Hospital (HUVH) from 1996 to 2010. Now he also chairs the scientific committee for the same hospital’s Institute of Oncology (VHIO).
