The recession, according to the Cercle d'Economia, has exposed the Catalan economy’s need to regain its industrial vocation, although it must be with a different concept of industry than we have seen traditionally. With the aim of consolidating Barcelona as the center of a large industrial region, the Cercle d'Economia is organizing a session entitled New elements of industrial development at their Barcelona headquarters on 5 July.

Speakers will include the president of the Biocat Executive Committee, Manel Balcells; CEO of GTD Sistemas de Información, Carlos Kinder; and director of Parc de l'Alba, Miquel Sodupe. Manel Balcells will speak about the potential of biotechnology, biomedicine and medical technology not only to promote the creation of innovative new companies, but also to drive restructuring of traditional sectors like metallurgy and textiles, among others.

The event will be moderated by the president of the Catalan Finance Institute, Andreu Morillas.
