Mapfre Foundation announces 75 grants for research projects from different fields, including health (45 grants) and environment (20 grants). The scholarships are aimed at researchers or research teams to develop research programs in the areas mentioned, independently or as part of universities, hospitals, companies or research centers to which they are attached. They can be from Spain, Portugal and Latin American countries. The maximum cash prize will be € 15,000.

The main themes on which they should have an impact on are:

Health

  • Orthopedic surgery, orthopedics and rehabilitation
  • Brain and spinal cord injury (excluding neurodegenerative)
  • Body damage assessment
  • Health management: quality and clinical safety
  • Health promotion: nutrition and exercise

Environment

  • Conservation of natural resources
  • Energy saving
  • Prevention of environmental pollution
  • Environmental education

Applications can be submitted until 11 October 2012. The decision will be made public next December 2012.

In 2011 call, 451 projects were submitted and 84 were awarded with grants. In Catalonia, three projects were selected from the Faculty of Pharmacy (University of Barcelona), two projects of the Institute Guttmann Institute and a project of the August Pi i Sunyer Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBAPS).
