BY BIOCAT

Dr. Montserrat Vendrell, CEO of Biocat, is this evening guest at the Figueres Tribuna Oberta which will take place at the Hotel Management School of the Alt Empordà (Costra Brava). This is the eighth edition of this dinner-talk which gathers the maximum socioeconomic and entrepreneurial representatives of the Alt Empordà area.

Vendrell will speak about biotechnology and biomedicine as a sector of future for Catalonia, and also of the different initiatives that Biocat is leading as an organization promoting the BioRegion of Catalonia at an international level so it becomes a strategic sector for the country. During today’s gathering, they will talk about the opportunities that biotechnology offers and how it can generate long-term growth. They will also talk about the role that cities like Figueres can play in the context of the BioRegion.

"We are in front of an historic moment to favour the change of our economic model and of reconsidering our productive system. The traditional engines of our economy are sinking, and investors, financiers and entrepreneurs are turning their heads towards new niches of opportunity. Now more than ever, investors, financiers and entrepreneurs have to commit firmly to an economy based on knowledge", explained Montserrat Vendrell.

The biotechnology and biomedical sector is the paradigm of all this: a sector fully technological, based on research and constant innovation, and with a direct impact on people’s welfare. Catalonia has pledged its commitment to biomedicine, which has taken our centres and hospitals to first positions worldwide. For Biocat CEO, “research centres and universities, scientific parks and hospitals, companies, investors and entrepreneurs, and on their side the government, have the joint mission to be coordinated and have a sustained growth".
