More than 350 scientists, entrepreneurs and investors come together for Congreso de Científicos Emprendedores in Barcelona
<p>The biosciences and information and communication technology sector came together on 24 and 25 February at CosmoCaixa to promote entrepreneuring scientists and encourage synergies among groups</p>
On 24 and 25 February, Barcelona hosted the Congreso de Científicos Emprendedores for the first time ever. This event is now in its fourth edition, with more than 350 participating scientists, entrepreneurs and investors from the biosciences and information and communication technology sectors seeking to generate new high value-added business opportunities.
Organized by the Asociación Española de Emprendedores Científico-Tecnológicos (AEEC) and Science & Business Events Management (SciBEM), the congress highlighted the importance of a good corporate communication strategy, effective intellectual property management and partnership deals.
Participants also spoke about the need to provide the system with research guidance mechanisms to meet the demands of the business fabric, the new stakeholders and investment vehicles like venture philanthropy and patient foundations, the high levels of liquidity today and promoting tandems with one scientist and one businessperson.
Biocat CEO Albert Barberà participated in a panel discussion on Innovation 6.0 and Biocat Head of Internationalization Roi Villar was on the panel for the discussion on New ways to innovate and communicate for entrepreneuring scientists.
The congress was made possible thanks to the collaboration of the "la Caixa” Foundation, Fundació Bosch i Gimpera and Associació de Biotecnòlegs de Catalunya and support from Biocat (gold sponsor), the Catalan Ministry of Economy and Knowledge Department of Entrepreneurship and Training, Mind the Byte, Capital Cell, Biotechnology Business Institute and the Fundación Repsol.
Previous editions of the Congreso de Científicos Emprendedores have been held in Madrid, Granada and Valencia. According to the organizers, Barcelona was chosen because it has become a true innovation ecosystem, a cluster that brings together science parks and research centers of excellence but also a large number of companies, start-ups and spin-offs, that make it possible to transform knowledge, science and technology into economic growth and social impact.
