The ninth edition of the Summer School on Medicines (SSM9), organized by Biocat and the Barcelona Science Park in collaboration with the Université de Montréal,  CNRS-INSERM-CRCT and Université Tolouse III - Paul Sabatier, will be held in Barcelona again this year from 2 to 7 July. The course will bring together all the experience and expertise of research centers, the pharmaceutical industry and universities in drug development.

SSM9 is a unique 50-hour training program that covers the whole drug-development value chain, from initial idea to market. It has a theory-based component, given by international experts from the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry, as well as a practical component, with case studies, oral presentations and personalized visits to several pharmaceutical companies.

New this year, SSM9 will feature Beyond the pill conferences, speaking about how the pharmaceutical industry needs to valorize its products, emphasizing new technology, medical and diagnostic devices, nanomedicines, precision medicine and genomics.

This summer school program is open to life sciences students (undergraduate, master, PhD and postdoc), researchers and professionals from the biopharmaceutical industry and regulatory agencies. Registration is open now through 16 June 2017.

Discovering a new drug is a complex process that involves a wide range of highly specialized professionals at public institutions and in industry. Since 2009, the Summer School on Medicines has been working to become the benchmark in training in this arena. Each year, the course is held in a different city (Barcelona, Montreal and Toulouse) and since its creation about 250 students of various nationalities participated in the latest edition, with backgrounds in academia, research and the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry.
