Echevarne Foundation is now accepting applications for the 5th edition of its National Prize in Oncology, intended to recognize work by Spanish researchers and foment excellence in the field of cancer research. The winner will receive 40,000 euros.

In keeping with the broad scope of the previous edition, from 2007, the Prize will reward the scientist who has made the greatest contribution to the generation, development or application of biological and clinical cancer knowledge, namely, by bridging basic research with applied work that offers direct benefits to patients.

Applications are being accepted until 30th June 2010, and the awards ceremony will be held this October, in Barcelona.

The judging committee comprises Dr. Juan Badimon (Mount Sinai Medical Center), Dr. Carlos Cordón-Cardo (Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center, Columbia University), Dr. José Costa (Yale Comprehensive Cancer Center), Dr. Riccardo Dalla-Favera (Institute for Cancer Genetics, Columbia University) and Dr. Franco Muggia (New York University).
