Rafael Foguet graduated with a degree in Chemistry from the University of Barcelona in 1957. In addition to his business activities, Foguet is the author of numerous articles, conferences and technical publications, as well as 120 patents of scientific and business importance in the chemical sector. In 2002, he received the Creu de Sant Jordi from the Government of Catalonia; in 2008, the Gold Medal from the Spanish National Association of Chemists; and in 2010 was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Barcelona. From 2004 to 2011, he presided over the Royal Academy of Sciences and Arts of Barcelona. He is currently vice-president of the Spanish Society of Industrial Chemistry and Chemical Engineering.
At the event, Xavier Trias described him as an “exceptional and generous man,” and said that people like him, with their commitment and drive, “make us grow as a city, contribute to our progress as a society and promote our international projection as a country.”
