Salvador Aznar receives 9th Banco Sabadell Award for Biomedical Research
This biochemist has been recognized for his research into stem cells and cancer
This Tuesday, Salvador Aznar, a researcher at the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB) of Barcelona, received the 9th Banco Sabadell Award for Biomedical Research for his work with stem cells and cancer. The award ceremony took place at Hospital Sant Pau and brought together various representatives of the scientific community.
Chosen from among more than 65 candidates, Salvador Aznar was selected “for his contributions to the field of stem cells. In particular, the award recognizes the discovery of the influence of the circadian cycle on the behavior of adult stem cells.” According to the panel of judges, “this finding has major implications in the fields of ageing and cancer.”
The Banco Sabadell Award for Biomedical Research, endowed with €50,000, aims to recognize the work of one young scientist forging their career in Spain who has great potential for the future. According to Dr. Carlos López-Otín, chair of the panel of judges this year, the award is “one of the most important in Spain and in the world, both given the prize money and because it recognizes one researcher personally.”
