The BioRegion of Catalonia will be represented by 195 delegates from 110 Catalan companies and organizations at BIO-Europe Spring, held from 20 to 22 March in Barcelona. As the heads of the local host committee, Biocat and ACCIÓ are organizing a series of activities to boost participation and awareness of Catalan companies during the congress. Their meeting point at the event will be booth 41 (coordinated by Biocat), where they can network with local and foreign delegates.

The most noteworthy sessions include a panel discussion held by Biocat on 21 March, focusing on regenerative medicine and its impact on health, especially on the process of bringing scientific advances from the laboratory to patients. The event will be moderated by Josep Maria Canals of the University of Barcelona and feature Patrick Bedford (CCRM), Kunihiko Suzuki (FIRM), Keith Thompson (The Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult) and Marcos Timón (AEMPS).

The European bioxclusters plus consortium and TO Health! are holding a session on the same day to compare business environments in Canada and Europe for the development and internationalization of personalized and precision medicine through success stories. The event will feature Mosaic Biomedicals General Manager Judit Anido, TOHealth! Executive Director Ella Korets-Smith and Northern Biologics CEO Stefan Larsson.

Boosting visibility of Catalan companies

Emerging Catalan companies in the biotechnology, medical technology and digital health sectors will have dedicated spaces to make themselves known among important investors, pharmaceutical companies and top opinion leaders in biotechnology at BIO-Europe Spring.

Specifically, Start-up Slam Barcelona will be held on 21 March. This international start-up contest is organized by the EBD Group and sponsored by Johnson&Johnson Innovation with collaboration from Biocat, Innovation Forum and Plug&Play. On 22 March, Biocat and ACCIÓ will host the HealthTech Start-up Competition, where 10 Catalan start-ups in digital health or medical devices will present their projects.

Plus, of the more than 110 Catalan companies attending, eight will give a company presentation to international leaders in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and the financial industry. These are Laboratorios Rubió, SOLTI, Almirall, Esteve, Gebro Pharma, Minoryx Therapeutics, Oryzon Genomics and Chemotargets.

The BioRegion of Catalonia program of activities at BIO-Europe Spring also includes parallel activities like networking breakfasts to forge contacts in the United Kingdom and Scandinavia, where Biocat will participate actively in presenting the BioRegion.

This edition of BIO-Europe Spring will have 8% more participants than the 2016 edition.
