The medical device industry has seen substantial growth over the past decade. Leading companies in this sector have maintained a strong commitment to innovation in their processes, services and products. This innovation includes focalization of the company’s key processes and outsourcing of part of the value chain in order to reach ad hoc solutions, manufacture or optimize costs.

The increase in outsourcing activity, from integral processes that cover the whole value chain through specific services, generates opportunities for companies in mature industrial sectors to broaden or restructure their business towards the healthcare field.

Biocat will bring together representatives from the medical technology field and other traditional sectors in order to demonstrate the growth opportunities that contract manufacturing offers the Catalan business fabric in a symposium entitled Driving contract manufacturing for medical technology, on 13 May in Barcelona.

The action plan for the development of techmed contract manufacturing in Catalonia will be presented at the symposium, as well as an online application that helps companies in related sectors search for business opportunities in order to restructure their activity.

Health Solutions –medical device manufactures specializing in pneumology, which recently received investment from Caixa Capital Risc–, Gutmar –specializing in mechanizing pieces and assembling precise, high-technology subsets– and TMI –devoted to the design and production of molds and stencils–, will present their own success stories.

The event will close with a round table with representatives from ACC1Ó, Fenin Catalonia, the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce and the Spanish Association of Rapid Manufacturing Companies (ASERM).
