Novartis just presented its BioCamp (Novartis International Biotechnology Leadership Camp), which will bring together the 60 students with the most talent in the areas of biosciences and business from universities worldwide. It deals with a three-day stay in the headquarters of the pharmaceutical multinational firm in Basel (Switzerland), from 29 to 31 August, with all travel and lodging expenses paid, which will allow them:
- To interact with the principal scientists of Novartis that direct drug discovery projects.
- To obtain information on the innovative medicines to cover medical needs not presently covered.
- To understand the trends and challenges of the sector of biotechnology.
- To receive first hand experience of how to start up and direct a biotechnology company.
- To explore the career opportunities in the pharmaceutical and biotechnological industry.
The Novartis Group is organised in four international operating divisions: pharmacy (innovative medicines protected by patents), vaccines and diagnostics, Sandoz (generic medicines) and consumer health (OTC medicines, animal health and CIBA Vision). In 2010 it had net sales of $50,600 million and invested $9,100 million in R&D. Currently worldwide, it employs nearly 119,500 persons.
The selection of students for the BioCamp will be done through the candidatures that are received up to 16 May. The students' academic record, professional experience and extracurricular activities will be evaluated. A high level of English is requested. Those selected will receive an e-mail in the month of July. The students of the Spanish State universities that want to apply must send a request sheet, their curriculum vitae and a letter of presentation by e-mail to the headquarters of Barcelona:
