The thematic workshops organized by the European Transbio Sudoe project entitled Regional best practices for company creation and development / Housing & Access to technologies in biotech companies were held on 27 and 28 February at the University of Valencia Science Park and the Príncipe Felipe Research Center (CIPF). Co-organized on this occasion by the InnDEA Valencia Foundation, the workshops brought together more than 30 experts from Portugal, France and Spain to participate in two days of conferences, panel discussions and visits to the surrounding biotechnology sector.

The main topics of the event were regional best practices for creation and development of biotech companies, housing and access to technology in countries participating in the project, the current status of research in science parks and universities, and the first steps of spin-offs and start-ups. It was particularly geared towards researchers and entrepreneurs interested in learning about the reality of companies in the biotechnology sector, as well as personnel from Offices for the Transfer of Research Results (OTRI), spin-offs and investors. Participants in the workshop included, among others, Rémy Poupot, executive director of Transbio Sudoe; Philippe Baralon, representing Phylum in Toulouse; Jacobo Cruces, representing Portuguese ECBio; Paula Llobet, InnDEA València director of Innovation; and Carlos Lurigados, Biocat head of Entrepreneurship and Business Growth.

The next meeting of the Transbio Sudoe project will take place at the Emergence Forum on 10 and 11 April in Barcelona, which will focus on innovation in human health and agrifood. The event is co-organized by Biocat, one of the nine partners participating in this European project, and the other participating partners from the BioRegion: the Barcelona Science Park (PCB), CataloniaBio and the UAB Research Park (PRUAB).

The forum will act as a space to promote partnering among companies and research centers in the areas of human health and agrifood innovation. It aims to foster new collaborations among the three countries involved through a program structured around pitch sessions, open debates and B2B spaces.

More information on the Emergence Forum is available on the official website.
