Many entrepreneurial projects are developed in Barcelona each year. For the twelfth consecutive year, Barcelona Activa (Barcelona City Council) presents the Barcelona Entrepreneurship Capital Awards, which recognize entrepreneurs that stand out for their ability to innovate and their efforts to overcome the difficulties of starting up a new business.

Awards will be given out in five categories:

  • Business Plan Contest
  • Microcredit New Business Award
  • Catalan Entrepreneur XXI Award
  • Growth Potential Business Award

This year’s edition incorporates a new category, the Barcelona Entrepreneurship Capital Ambassador Award, which recognizes entrepreneurs with an outstanding international business career that have significantly contributed to positioning Barcelona as an entrepreneuring city.

Candidates must submit their materials before 12 April 2010 for the Business Plan Contest and before 21 April 2010 for the rest of the categories. Any company whose business address is in the Barcelona metropolitan area may participate or, for the Business Plan Contest, those that plan to start up a company in this area. For the Catalan Entrepreneur XXI Award, candidates must have their fiscal address in Catalonia.

The jury, composed of representatives from renowned public and private entities in the business field, will meet and choose the winner among the three finalists in each category. Finalists will be chosen by an internal jury.

Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony held 19 May 2010. Finalists and winners in each category will be eligible to have a stand at the business fair held as part of the Day of the Entrepreneur.
