The Polytechnic School of the University of Girona (UdG) is part of the organizing committee of the first International Conference on Design and Processes for Medical Devices (PROMED), to be held from 2 to 4 May 2012 in Brescia (Italy). The other participating institutions are the University of Brescia, University of New Jersey (USA), Polytechnic Institute of Leiria (Portugal), Tecnológico de Monterrey (Mexico) and the Centro de Tecnologia da Informação (Brazil).

Dr. Joaquim de Ciurana, lead investigator of the UdG Research Group in Product, Process and Production Engineering (GREP), has explained to Biocat "the various topics treated in the conference, from the design of medical devices to the development of new biocompatible materials, will allow attendees to discover the latest trends and developments that are being generated globally on product design and manufacture for the healthcare industry."

The meeting also aims to facilitate the exchange of ideas among professionals and medical experts and technicians in the area of development of medical devices. Companies that attend will have the opportunity to exhibit their products and participate actively in discussions between technical experts in the sectors of engineering and medicine. Dr de Ciurana, along with other GREP researchers will have an extensive participation in the official program.

Moreover, PROMED conference is presented as a platform for innovation and to open new markets.
