CRAASH Barcelona: three days of training to continue accelerating projects
This October, teams participating in the Biocat acceleration program have attended three days of training where sector experts gave them advice on continuing to accelerate their project. The event, organized by Biocat, took place between October 23 and 25 at Tech Barcelona (Pier 07).
CRAASH Barcelona is moving forward and the six teams continue training to improve their projects. The participants attended three days of training, including several sessions headed by sector experts. Some of the more standout themes included: how to prepare a good pitch to attract investment, understanding the importance of the patient in the innovation process and learning about the different sources of funding.
Regarding the last point, Marc Perpiñán, funding project manager at UpBizor, explained in his session “Public financing in Health projects/startups” that it is important to combine private and public funding while taking into consideration the cost/risk balance. He also highlighted the best calls to bear in mind when seeking public funding: startup capital d’ACCIÓ in Catalonia, and CDTI and NEOTEC on a national level.
On the other hand, he also explained possible alternatives such as tax incentives for startups, and the innovative SME stamp from the Spanish government, which provides several financial advantages such as tax deductions.
The teams were also able to see the role of insurers and pharmaceutical companies in the purchase and acceleration of startups with the sessions “Insurances as buyers of solutions in healthcare” given by Luis Garcia, senior business development director of digital health at DKV and “How do pharma companies collaborate with startups” by Gemma Estrada, director of digital health and technologies at Ferrer.
Other sector professionals who participated in the event included: Miquel Martí, CEO of Tech Barcelona, Daniel Oliver, CEO of Capital Cell, Josep Ballesté, director of Swala Ventures, Jordina Arcal, serial entrepreneur, Laura Sampietro, deputy director of Innovation and head of Health Technology Assessment at Hospital Clínic and Marc Ramis, managing partner and venture partner at Ship2B Ventures.
Lastly, this event was streamed to participants in the Life Science Accelerator Baden-Württemberg program, a German accelerator that will immerse the participants of CRAASH Barcelona in the German life sciences and healthcare ecosystem in November.
