Barcelona, ​​September 26th, 2023. – Today the starting signal has been given for BIOSPAIN 2023, the international reference event for the biotechnology sector, which will bring together more than 2,000 people from 30 countries of the sector from 975 entities at the Montjuïc Fair in Barcelona, until September 28th.

The organizers of the conference, the Spanish Association of Bioenterprises (AseBio) and Biocat, a regional collaborator that has facilitated the holding of the meeting in Barcelona, ​​presented today at a press conference the main themes that will be developed throughout the three days, the most prominent speakers and the business opportunities that the congress will offer to the different agents of the Catalan ecosystem.

“The celebration of BIOSPAIN in Barcelona was long-awaited news for the sector, which promised to break records of participation, promoters and international visibility given the good positioning of the city and the BioRegion of Catalonia in Europe. And so he has done it. For this reason, we are convinced that this year's edition will be especially beneficial in terms of business opportunities, investments and networking for the group of professionals who participate”, said Robert Fabregat, general director of Biocat.

The congress will address key aspects to address global challenges such as biomanufacturing, data space, advanced therapies and personalized medicine. “The BIOSPAIN program offers a complete snapshot of the challenges and opportunities that set the pace of the biotech industry. BIOSPAIN brings together the large companies in the sector, the most entrepreneurial startups and spin-offs, authorities, regulatory agencies and the main investors,” said Ion Arocena, general director of AseBio.

The event will have the support of a good number of Catalan companies, such as Almirall and Grifols (Platinum sponsors); Asabys, Esteve, Hoffmann Eitle Madrid & Barcelona, ​​Klinea, Oryzon and Ysios Capital (Gold sponsors); Asphalion, Barcelona Supercomputing Center, Genesis Biomed, LIM Global, Nostrum Biodiscovery and Promega (Silver sponsors) and Ayming and Welab Barcelona (Bronze sponsors). BIOSPAIN: business opportunity for Catalan companies

BIOSPAIN is one of the leading events in the sector at European level. This year it will bring together more than 850 innovative entities in Barcelona that work in the fields of health, sustainable agri-food and industrial transformation to find solutions against climate change. Of the total number of innovative companies participating, more than a third are Catalan (284), and of these, fifty will have their own commercial space.

The BioRegion of Catalonia will have its own pavilion that will include a differentiated visibility space for startups from the BioRegion of Catalonia. The companies that will participate will be Aortyx, Biointaxis, CEBIOTEX, Cytes Biotechnologies, DBGen Ocular Genomics, D-Sight, MedBioinformatics Solutions, Gate2Brain, Beyond You and Remab Therapeutics.

AseBio and Biocat are committed to biotechnology as a sector that has a lot to contribute in the context in which we live. Therefore, the celebration of BIOSPAIN 2023, thanks to the coordinated collaboration between Biocat, the Generalitat of Catalonia and the Barcelona City Council, will be able to promote new ideas and opportunities to meet a common goal: improve people's lives and protect the planet from the hand of biotechnology.

Barcelona, ​​European nerve center in health innovation

The Catalan capital has been chosen to host this congress since Barcelona and Catalonia lead international rankings in the number of startups, scientific publications or clinical trials, among others, in addition to having renowned research centers and hospitals. Also, the territory brings together 45% of the total turnover of the sector in Spain.

Celebrating just 20 years since its first edition, BIOSPAIN is consolidating itself as an international reference event for the biotechnology sector. The congress constitutes a complete showcase of the potential of this industry and its presence in all areas of society, offering concrete solutions to the new challenges that may arise on a daily basis.
