A total of 30 Catalan companies and organizations were at the BIO International Convention this year, the top partnering fair for the biomedical sector held from 19 to 22 June at the San Diego Convention Center (California, United States).
The Catalan delegation, coordinated by Biocat, had a booth to promote the BioRegion of Catalonia. Inside this space, with more than 30 square meters, five Catalan companies had their own booth to boost visibility: Trifermed, ZeClinics, BCN Peptides, Oryzon Genomics and Laboratorios Salvat.
The other Catalan companies participating in the event included biotechnology firms working in therapies and diagnostics (Ability Pharma, Iproteos, Archivel Farma, Grifols International, Spherium Biomed, GP Pharm and Thrombotargets), biotechnology firms devoted to R&D services (Nostrum Discovery, Biokit, Pharmacelera, Intelligent Pharma and ReadyCell), pharmaceutical corporations (Almirall, Ferrer Internacional, Bioibérica, Esteve, Uriach), organizations (Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute, Catalonia Trade & Investment – ACCIÓ, Barcelona Science Park, Center for Genomic Regulation, Vall d’Hebron Research Institute, Institute for Research in Biomedicine) and one venture capital fund (Alta Life Sciences).
Biocat presented the BioRegion of Catalonia: innovation and reasons to invest
At the fair, participants were able to hold one-on-one meetings in the partnering area with possible international contacts and participated in a variety of conferences. The BioRegion of Catalonia gained visibility through two events organized by Biocat to promote Catalan companies.
The first, the International Cancer Cluster Showcase, was a satellite event under the BIO umbrella featuring ACCIÓ and Biocat as partners and allowing several international bioregions to share their latest news in oncology. Biocat presented the main assets of the BioRegion of Catalonia in this area and Ability Pharmaceuticals and ZeClinics shared their most innovative projects in the field of oncology.
Biocat also participated in the Global Innovation Hub, showcasing international opportunities in the BioRegion to attract foreign investment to Catalonia. In parallel, Oryzon Genomics, which works in epigenetics, gave a presentation on its pipeline on Wednesday 21 June. ICEX also organized activities as the coordinator of the Spanish delegation.
