Putting scientific projects in contact with mentors, entrepreneurs and business development professionals who can help them with their business plan or in raising funding, among other needs: this is the main goal of Health & Bio Team Dating, the partnering event organized by BStartup from Banc Sabadell, Biocat and CataloniaBio & HealthTech that is now in its fourth year.

The event will take place on October 17 in Barcelona, as part of Healthio, and registration will be open from July 25 to October 7.

The event is geared towards two main profiles. On one hand, researchers with a scientific project associated with the healthcare and life sciences (therapeutics and diagnostics, medical technology, digital health, agrifood, etc.); and, on the other, professionals with business experience interested in growing these scientific projects as mentors, entrepreneurs or business developers.

Professionals that fit one of these two profiles can register on the Health & Bio Team Dating platform any time before October 7 and fill in their profile, making it as detailed and attractive as possible, to attract the attention of other participants and maximize their partnering options. Once registered, they can start sending and receiving meeting requests starting on September 10.

85% of strategic contacts at previous events

The previous events hosted more than 500 meetings with over 180 projects and business professionals. 85% of the participants in previous Health & Bio Team Dating events found strategic contacts and new business thanks to the initiative and some teams have even set up stable collaborations.

This is the case of Elem Biotech, a spin-off of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center – Centre Nacional de Supercomputació (BSC-CNS), which was set up this July. Company founder Mariano Vásquez attended the previous edition of the Health & Bio Team Dating event and, thanks to a meeting with Genesis Biomed, Josep Lluís Falcó has joined the project as a mentor and investor. "At that time, we were still developing the idea and had the first prototype of our business plan, but we were looking for a mentor who could contribute a business viewpoint to my scientific profile, as well as seed capital," explains Vásquez. The company, which does virtual simulations of organs and tissue for treatment discovery, already has a first capital increase of €200,000 tied up.

Another successful case to come out of Health & Bio Team Dating is Leukos Biotech: the company's founder, scientist Ruth Risueño, had never thought about setting up a company because she didn't have any business training, but at the event she met the current CEO of the company: Enrique Llaudet.

DNANutricoach also made interesting contacts at Health & Bio Team Dating: "Thanks to the event, I signed a collaboration agreement with IESE for their MBA students to do summer internships at my company, bringing in the business vision that has helped me learn a lot and grow the company," highlights founder Valentini Konstantinidou.
