AB-Biotics launches to market first probiotic to fight cavities, halitosis and gingivitis
AB-Dentis has been specifically designed to fight the bacteria that cause the most common oral ailments.

AB-Biotics, one of Catalonia’s most international biotechnology companies, is launching the first probiotic developed specifically to fight the most common oral-health pathologies, like cavities, bad breath and gum disease. The formula is called AB-Dentis and will be marketed around the world by Danish company CMS Dental.
This probiotic bases its action on two bacteria (Lactobacillus plantarum and Lactobacillus brevis) that combat pathogens responsible for causing these conditions and promoting good oral health.
Factors like tobacco, stress or inadequate hygiene may disrupt a person’s oral balance and thus lead to a build-up of bacteria that cause cavities, halitosis or gingivitis. AB-Dentis fights those microorganisms by attaching itself to teeth, tongue and gums, getting rid of any bacteria that may already be present and preventing their return. The AB-Dentis formula can be administered in chewing gum, toothpaste, oral spays or pills, serving as a solution to these conditions that can affect up to the 90% of the population.
AB-Biotic is a spin-off of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) created in 2004. Since then, they have licensed 93 patents and raised almost €13 millions in investment, in addition to collaborating with large pharmaceutical groups. In 2010, they became the first Catalan company in the biotech sector to go public on the Alternative Stock Market (MAB) and are considered a model company in technological transfer. In 2012, AB-Biotics closed a round of funding for €5 millions, which will go to fund the company’s international expansion, and already has marketing licenses for its products in various markets in Europe, Asia and America.
The Catalan biotech company took part in BIO-Europe Spring 2013, the most important biotechnology partnering congress in Europe held in Barcelona this week, which brought together more than 2,000 top-notch executives and investors from 50 different countries. The executive committee of the company will also go to BIO Chicago 2013 , the top global biotechnology fair held 22 to 24 April, with the Catalan delegation of 35 companies coordinated by Biocat.
