Biocat participates in Hellenic Biocluster Forum 2025 to discuss digital precision medicine and artificial intelligence in healthcare
Experts from across the continent analyzed the main challenges and opportunities of a sector that is being transformed, highlighting the need for more investment, a clear regulatory framework and collaboration among regions to boost Europe’s competitiveness

The Hellenic Biocluster (HBio) Forum 2025, held in Athens on March 6 and 7, was a meeting point for hundreds of experts from institutions and companies all over the world to promote collaboration among European regions in the life sciences and healthcare sector.
Biocat helped organize a workshop titled InnoMedCatalyst, which identified the main challenges and opportunities of digital precision medicine in Europe. The activity, led by Biocat Strategic Foresight and International Relations Director and CEBR President Montse Daban and Biocat Strategic Foresight and International Relations Project Manager Maria Cejas, was moderated by Stamatiki Kritas. A selection of experts and leaders of regional clusters, as well as industry stakeholders and policy makers, took part in the event.
The main topics discussed in this session included:
- Funding and investment: How to secure capital, assess investment opportunities and develop sustainable business models.
- New markets and global expansion: Analyzing the dynamics of global markets, identifying key challenges and adapting to different healthcare systems in Europe and the world.
- Scale-up strategies for startups and SMEs: Establishing the steps required to grow a project, from adjusting business models to overcoming operational obstacles.
- Regulation and market access: Adapting to different regulatory frameworks, finding strategic alliances and adapting business models to the specific needs of each market.
- Integration into the healthcare workflow: Ensuring seamless adoption of digital precision medicine solutions in different healthcare environments.
- Collaboration and transparency: Strengthening partnerships among clusters, companies and policy makers to accelerate the growth and sustainability of innovation ecosystems.
AI and healthcare: future of the digital transformation
Biocat also took part in a panel discussion on artificial intelligence for healthcare, featuring Montse Daban. Biocat Director of Strategic Foresight and International Relations presented Catalonia’s artificial intelligence in healthcare strategy, as well as the AI advances achieved and tools being developed in the BioRegion of Catalonia and support programs for emerging tech companies.
One of the key points of the discussion was the impact of the new European regulation on artificial intelligence, and how small and medium-sized companies can take advantage of the opportunities that will open up with the new regulations in 2025. The panel also discussed the creation of seven European AI factories, one of which will be at the BSC and launched in 2025.
