InKemia IUCT Group, heading up a consortium of European companies and research centers, has won a public tender called by the European Union with the R&D project “Glycerol Biorefinery Approach for the Production of High Quality Products of Industrial Value” (GRAIL). This project will generate €6 millions in operating revenue for InKemia IUCT over the coming four years.

The GRAIL projecte, which falls under the European Union’s 7th Framework Program, has 15 partners from 9 countries that have joined forces to find new uses for glycerol generated through the manufacturing of biodiesel. GRAIL aims to transform this waste into useful substances in order to make biodiesel more sustainable and revalorize it with industrially efficient processes.

The projects needs €7.9 millions in R&D investment from the consortium over the coming four years to develop a biodiesel refinery, €1.2 millions of which will be contributed by InKemia. However, the investment is expected to be reinvested in new patentable products, processes and technology.

With this important project, InKemia IUCT Group is taking another step forward in its business development, coinciding with the first anniversary of its IPO on the Alternative Stock Market (MAB). Next year, they hope to boost expansion in South America by strengthening their presence in Colombia and opening a new subsidiary in Brazil in April.
