After a few years without being able to hold it, the Spanish Bioindustry Association (AseBio) has announced the eighth Journalism Award for the upcoming BIOSPAIN fair in the Catalan capital.

From September 26 to 28, Barcelona will be the stage for one of the most important biotechnology events in Europe. BIOSPAIN, organized by AseBio in collaboration with Biocat, the Government of Catalonia and the Barcelona City Council, will bring together local, national and international stakeholders in the sector in the Catalan capital with 200 exhibitors and over 1,700 participants. Taking advantage of the 20th anniversary of this event, AseBio announced it will be giving out its Journalism Award, which aims to raise awareness of the role professional journalism plays in communicating and spreading the word about the main advances in the biotechnology sector and its contribution to economic and social development.
At the event to present the awards, AseBio CEO Ion Arocena explained, “This initiative gives us a more in-depth understanding of the view communication professionals have of the areas where biotechnology is active and lets us work together to have a greater impact on society.” He highlighted, “BIOSPAIN 2023 will be the perfect stage for raising awareness of the excellent science, technology and innovation generated in this country and that is why we want to recognize the top two pieces of journalism covering the event itself and all the knowledge the biotechnology sector will be sharing at the Fira de Barcelona fairgrounds.”
The pieces, which must focus on one of the topics on the BIOSPAIN 2023 program (e.g. agrifood, industry transformation, health, funding), can be submitted between September 26 and October 15. The authors of the two winning pieces will each get €1,500.
The panel of judges who will choose the winners is made up of professionals from the two organizers: Silvia Labé, director of Communications, Marketing and Competitive Intelligence at Biocat (co-organizer of BIOSPAIN 2023); Ion Arocena, CEO of AseBio; Raquel Saiz, director of Insights and Strategy at AseBio; Ángel Luis Jiménez, head of Communications and Content at AseBio; and Beatriz Diaz, coordinator of the Communication Work Group at AseBio and director of Communications at Zendal.
