Seqera Labs is a spinoff of the Centre de Regulació Genòmica (CRG) established in 2018 by Evan Floden and Paolo Di Tommaso. The company’s mission is to simplify data analysis in the cloud with software that allows the pharmaceutical, genomics and biotechnology sectors to create and roll out secure collaborative data applications in any environment.
The company played a key role during the pandemic. Their Nextflow Tower data analysis platform made it possible to detect and follow up on new COVID-19 variants, becoming one of the company’s most important assets.
In November 2022, the company closed a €22-million round of funding to continue development of their platform. This operation ranked the company fifth among health startups in Catalonia in terms of funding secured in 2022.
In this interview, Seqera Labs CEO and co-founder Evan Floden explains how he got the chance to be an entrepreneur and why he decided to start the company. Plus, he also shares what he looks for when hiring new people.
