"Entrepreneuring is living every day with no option of being bored"
Josep Gatell
He has a degree in Industrial engineering and an MBA from IESE. He worked for the Werfen group for 25 years, as general manager of the Group Hospital, and has started up several companies that manufacture and/or distribute products in the medical sector since 2003: Nefro-Ión (2003), Cardiolink (2004), Ilerimplant (2005) and Swan Medical (2016).
Swan Medical manufactures a sterile single-use device that improves lighting, which is often insufficient, in hard-to-reach or shadowed areas of the surgical field. It is an LED ring on a flexible cylindrical base that can easily be attached to the tip of most surgical instruments, putting the light 2-3 centimeters from the intervention point and giving surgeons a much better view than any other solution on the market. The idea, from two surgeons at Can Ruti with the support of Institute for Health Science Research Germans Trias i Pujol, addresses the need to see more and better that arises in many open surgeries. So, Josep Gatell highlights, it helps reduce the anxiety of operating without being able to see well, ensuring more precise surgical work and making operations less risky.
