One of the key focal points of Biocat’s strategy is its international positioning and the influence of the BioRegion. In 2022, actions were carried out to forge alliances with the main European and international stakeholders, projecting and raising awareness of the assets and potential of the BioRegion and its stakeholders by taking part in and attracting top business events and facilitating access to international markets and environments.

BRIGHT

The BRIGHT project, led by Biocat, kicked off in February 2022 and brings together four European clusters: STUNS, Sweden; Connected Health Cluster, Estonia; Eurasanté, France and Biocat, Catalonia. Its goal is to accompany the stakeholders in their respective ecosystems on their digital transformation and bolster the digital health subsector.

INNAXE

The INNAXE project aims to strengthen connections among life sciences and healthcare ecosystems to boost their efficacy and innovation capacities, focusing on the challenges and opportunities of the twin transformation.

The six European clusters taking part (Medicen, France; BioRN, Germany; Health and Life Sciences Cluster, Bulgaria; Danish Life Science Cluster, Denmark, the Council of European BioRegions and Biocat, Catalonia) are working to assess the impact of the actions and programs they carry out in their respective ecosystems to connect stakeholders and drive innovation.

BioMan4R2

The BioMan4R2 project provides financial support and connections for small and medium companies in the medical technology and biologics manufacturing sector interested in boosting their resilience, sustainability and competitiveness in order to improve manufacturing processes, transfer disruptive medical technologies, and boost the competitiveness and sustainability of the European health ecosystem.

The European regions partnering in this project are: Turku Science Park Oy Ab (Finland, leaders), Bioregio STERN (Germany), LifetecZONe  (Netherlands), Upper Silesian Accelerator for Commercial Enterprises Ltd (Poland), Medicen Paris Region (France), Council of European BioRegions (Belgium) and Biocat (Catalonia).

EU-Japan Region-to-Region Innovation Cooperation

Biocat and the Catalan Ministry of Research and Universities visited Japan as part of the European EU-Japan Region-to-Region Innovation Cooperation project, which aims to improve and internationalize the regional innovation strategy of select regions and prefectures, and to encourage the exchange of best practices between the EU and Japan, in addition to promoting business opportunities.

Catalonia, which took part promoting the BioRegion and Hydrogen Valley, was one of six European regions chosen to participate, alongside Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (France), Val-d’Oise (France), Basque Country (Spain), Emilia-Romagna (Italy) and Ljubljana Urban Region (Slovenia).

TIRS Switzerland Edition

Biocat and the Delegation of the Government of Catalonia to Switzerland co-organized The Investment Readiness Series Switzerland Edition, with five startups from the BioRegion participating. The companies got to pitch their projects to cutting-edge Swiss investors, business angels, venture capitalists and companies like Novartis, Lonza, HBM Partners and Swiss Rockets, among others.

BIO San Diego 2022

Accompanied by 26 companies from the BioRegion, Biocat attended BIO San Diego 2022, the most important event in the global biotechnology sector, to raise awareness of the BioRegion’s main projects and assets.

Drug discovery, biomanufacturing, genomics, biofuels, nanotechnology and cell technology were the main topics of this international event where Biocat, represented by Biocat CEO Robert Fabregat and Director of Science Policy and Internationalization Montserrat Daban, raised awareness of the main projects and assets in the BioRegion through over 20 meetings with various international investors and corporates.

SCOPE Europe

The Summit for Clinical Trials Operations Executives Europe (SCOPE Europe) was held on April 20 and 21 in Barcelona and Biocat hosted a science session to discuss strategies for implementing digital technology in clinical trials, taking into account any challenges and lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic. Biocat Director of Science Policy and Internationalization Montserrat Daban moderated the panel.
