Since 2016, the XPatient Barcelona Congress has stood out for its focus on evaluating patient perspectives in healthcare. This annual congress has fostered a paradigm shift, considering the patient experience (XPA) as an essential pillar of quality care, promoting initiatives and practical methodologies such as qualitative research and patient-centered design.

In the 2024 edition, which will be held on September 18th at the Paraninfo of the Faculty of Medicine at UB, the focus will be on evaluating the patient experience and how its outcomes intersect with clinical results. Key areas will be addressed, including information for patient empowerment and self-management, time and resource consumption from the patient's perspective, process improvement, and the impact on health outcomes and beyond.

Thematic Areas:

  • Patient and Caregiver Empowerment: There will be discussions on how to assess and improve their user experiences, considering the patient experience as one of the three pillars of quality along with safety and effectiveness. Methods to understand patient perceptions and ways to systematically collect and analyze their feedback will be explored.
  • Co-Creation with Patients: Improving healthcare services requires the active participation of patients. This thematic area will focus on participatory procedures where the user is the main actor, highlighting the importance of minimizing the asymmetry between patients and professionals.
  • Technology in the Service of the Patient: Technology plays a crucial role in improving the patient experience, facilitating feedback through various tools and enhancing patient empowerment through information and resources. The analysis will cover how technology can support self-care and promote healthy lifestyles.

The congress promises to be a space for discussion and learning about methodologies and indicators that provide active, reliable, and actionable information for the continuous improvement of the patient experience.

With the aim of showcasing the work and conclusions of the workshops conducted by the practice community, identifying best practices, and promoting their implementation in the healthcare system,
bringing to light the research being carried out in the field of quality improvement,
becoming the annual meeting point for professionals working on quality improvement and service providers with solutions for this sector.
